Kenton on Sea Ratepayers Association
The Kenton on Sea Ratepayers Association (KOSRA) aims to watch over the interests of its members regarding the activities of local government; and Protect, maintain and improve the amenities of Kenton-on-Sea and its environs for the benefit of all.

The objects of KOSRA are

  • To protect and further the interests of the community of Kenton-on-Sea in relation to the natural environment by engaging in the conservation, rehabilitation and protection of the natural environment in the Kenton-on-Sea area including the estuaries, the beaches, flora, fauna and the biosphere.
  • To collaborate with community organizations in relation to the provisions of 3.1 above.
  • To take the steps, whether by dialogue, collaboration and or legal action as may be necessary or appropriate to maintain adequate levels of service delivery from local, provincial and national spheres of government as may be required for the provision of facilities for the community pertaining to the environment and area of Kenton-on-Sea including water and sewage infrastructure, roads and electricity.
  • Where necessary and feasible, to substitute for the shortcomings of government in relation to all aspects of service delivery including but not limited to:
    • Road maintenance and rehabilitation;
    • Maintenance of public drainage;
    • Installation and maintenance water reticulation equipment;
    • Repair of public infrastructure and parking areas arising from natural disasters;
    • The provision of security services for the safety of the general public by means of:
    • Guarding services;
    • Contributions to community protection organisations;
    • Camera network support;
    • Provision of fuel for the South African Police Services at Kenton-on-Sea;
    • Recycling of waste;
    • Provision of training, support and assistance to the emerging micro-enterprise entrusted with the responsibility for recycling;
    • Provision of public ablution facilities;
    • Provision of emergency medical equipment;
    • Provision fire-fighting equipment;
    • The clearance and maintenance of public walkways and paths;
    • Painting and maintenance of roads and road signage;
    • Support and contributions to community soup kitchen initiatives;
    • Provision of support for wetland protection and maintenance;
    • Collaboration with and contributions to local community organisations in relation to protection of the estuaries and sand dunes;
    • Monitoring of water quality in the estuaries;
    • Interaction with relevant authorities regarding traffic and road safety for the community.
  • To protect, maintain and improve the public facilities and amenities of Kenton-on-Sea and its environs for the benefit of all residents of, and visitors to, the area.
  • To raise funds by subscription, donation or any other lawful means in order to give effect to the objects of KOSRA.
  • To provide and donate funds, assets, services or other resources by way of donation for the benefit of areas that fall within the area of operation of the Association.
  • To collaborate with other ratepayers’ associations or similar organisations in furthering any of the objects set forth above.
On a day-to-day basis, the activities of KOSRA are predominantly those related to the conservation, rehabilitation and protection of the natural environment, particularly in the interactions that KOSRA has with Ndlambe Local Municipality which have increasingly focused upon environmental issues and issues relating to service delivery to the general public.

KOSRA has played and continues to play a leading role in addressing the many environmental and community issues that are common to the general public and cardinal to the success of Kenton-on-Sea as a tourist destination and place of residence.
