Kenton on Sea is more than just a destination, it is a sanctuary and our home. Whether you are a lifelong resident or a seasonal visitor, we all share a deep-rooted love for our unique ‘village between two rivers.’ However, maintaining the safety, beauty, and functionality of our town requires more than just appreciation, it requires a collective investment and your support.

As the pressures on municipal resources increase, our voluntary contributions have become the lifeline that prevents Kenton from falling into disrepair. Here is why your continued support is vital and if you don’t know, these are just a few things your valued contributions go towards.

We all know the frustration of deteriorating road surfaces. Our funding ensures that road upkeep is proactive rather than reactive, preventing small cracks from becoming impassable craters. Elliot road is a current example.

Furthermore, our Road Improvement Scheme managed by Arthur Taute on the KOSRA team, is a forward-thinking initiative. We cherry pick the roads that can be saved and we find the best solution to preserve them for as long as possible. Your donations by ‘road’ will also determine how much KOSRA can dedicate to your road refurbishment. By upgrading and maintaining our roads we are directly increasing the market value of every home in Kenton. Well maintained infrastructure is the hallmark of a thriving small coastal town.

Kenton’s reputation as a safe haven is one of our greatest assets. Our dedicated security funding allows for:

• Visible patrols that act as a deterrent. Especially over the busy festive seasons.
• Rapid response capabilities that municipal services alone cannot provide. We work hand in hand with the various security teams such as the Night Watch teams and HiTech.
• Advanced surveillance keeping our streets safe for families to walk without fear. Our camera network has saved the day on more than one occasion

Our coastline is a dynamic, living system that requires careful management. Currently, the vegetation on the dunes, much of it man planted, is hindering the dune’s ability to move and shift naturally. This artificial stabilisation is causing sand to build up unnaturally and migrate northwards along Westbourne Road, creating a huge maintenance challenge. Addressing this requires expert intervention to restore natural flow while protecting our infrastructure. This costs money.

Furthermore, we must prioritise the health of our greatest assets, our rivers. We are committed to funding ablution blocks and or serviced porta-loos along both the Bushman’s and Kariega Rivers, should we get sufficient funding. For example, the serviced porta-loos at the Kariega River for the month of December cost R12000.00. This is a critical step in ensuring water hygiene, preventing contamination, and keeping our swimming and boating areas safe and pristine for everyone.

First impressions are everything. From our manicured public slipways to our well-tended verges, town beautification projects do more than just clean up the streets, they foster an atmosphere of pride and community care. All of this costs money.

Our latest endeavour, the Heritage Beautification Project, marks a significant milestone for Kenton. We are honoured to announce that renowned artist Bruce Little has donated a life-size bronze Bushbuck, which will serve as a permanent landmark at the entrance of Kenton Main Street, just off Kariega Road.

To complement this stunning piece, the surrounding area will be professionally landscaped and rejuvenated. This will create an authentic welcome that reflects the spirit of our town and hopefully support local businesses by encouraging foot traffic and investment.

Ultimately, we want Kenton to be more than just a destination, we want it to be a place where people feel inspired to invest in their lives and their futures.

Our vision for a beautiful Kenton goes beneath the surface. We deeply value recycling as a pillar of our environmental responsibility. Keeping our town pristine requires more than just landscaping, it requires a dedicated system to manage waste effectively. We give thanks to Kellis who works tirelessly to keep this initiative running smoothly

To ensure the success of our local recycling efforts, the Kenton Ratepayers Association provides vital financial support to our recycling initiatives. This funding currently covers:

• Monthly fuel costs for collection and transport.
• Comprehensive insurance for the recycling depot.

This community-funded support ensures that our waste management remains consistent and professional. By prioritising these services, we protect our natural surroundings, support and help build local business. Let’s all be part of the solution and commit to helping

The ongoing lack of reliable water is perhaps the most significant challenge facing Ward 4. While the appointment of Sizwe Amanzi has improved water production, the telemetry and water distribution and reticulation infrastructure remains the critical failure point. Simply put, while water is being produced, aging municipal pipes and systems are struggling to deliver it to your taps.

KOSRA is reluctant to fund any water infrastructure until we have clarity in respect of the Managing contractor to be appointed by Ndlambe, who would be using equipment funded by us. Alternatively, the appointed contractor may have adequate own resources, and we can focus our efforts elsewhere to make a difference.

At the moment we are focusing on recording daily bulk meter readings in consultation with Ndlambe to assess where water is going to.

While we pay our standard rates, those funds are often stretched across the huge need of Ward 4. Our local contributions are ring fenced, every cent stays right here in Kenton. It is a small price to pay to ensure that our town doesn’t just survive, but thrives.
