Water Crisis Meeting | update

After Ndlambe Municipality missed two out of three deadlines and reports, the following letter was sent to them on Thursday, February 13.

Dear Rolly and Thulani

Whilst the community has been so very patient with Ndlambe for so many years regarding the inadequate water supply, the situation has simply continued to deteriorate.

So how can we be expected to continue to be patient? What is the point?

Can we realistically say that there is a reasonable expectation that there will be an improvement? Clearly we have no basis to think that there would or could be an improvement.

What we see, quite frankly, is the can getting kicked down the road ad nauseam. By its inaction, Ndlambe are disrespecting the community and taking advantage of our good nature, all the while as things go from bad to worse.

Please be advised that KOSRA, on behalf of the Ratepayers will give Ndlambe until the end of this month, i.e. until 28 February 2025, to comply with the minuted important dates as agreed at the Water Crisis Meeting on 6 January 2025. For ease of reference these were the following:

Important Dates

  1. 20 Jan – Feedback from Ndlambe / Ministerial meeting to the group
  2. 31 Jan – Appointment of a Specialist Underground Water Service Provider(UWSP) to assess underground water
  3. 28 Feb – Report from UWSP to augment supply
  4. 28 Feb – Appointment of Process Engineer
  5. 28 Feb – Next meeting to discuss the UWSP report and other plans
  6. 31 Mar – Report from the Process Engineer by the end of March

By its inaction, particularly in regard to the dire lack of water, Ndlambe are slowly but surely destroying Kenton-on-Sea and the neighbouring towns.

As the representative of the Ratepayers, we have a residual responsibility to do all that we can to prevent this.

If we do not have complete compliance with the above timetable by 28 February 2025, KOSRA (with or without the associated community organisations) will prepare and commence litigation against Ndlambe to compel Ndlambe to comply with its constitutional obligations. This will be a step of last resort and not the course of action that we prefer.

But we will be left with no alternative.

Regards

KENTON-ON-SEA RATEPAYERS ASSOCIATION
